Welcome to DermDistrict!

Welcome to DermDistrict, a structured dermatology learning platform designed to help you build confidence in recognizing, understanding, and managing common skin conditions.

DermDistrict was created by Dr. Julie Pena as part of her commitment to educating nurse practitioners and physician assistants in dermatology. Through high standards of training and regularly updated content based on new findings in the field, DermDistrict supports the delivery of high-quality dermatologic care.

This program is organized as a six-week medical dermatology course. You should expect to spend approximately 30–40 hours per week working through the lessons, review materials, labs, and quizzes.

How to Navigate DermDistrict

To begin, go to LearnDash → Courses → Medical Dermatology. This is where the main course content is located. Once inside the course, work through each dermatology topic in order.

1. Start the Course

Go to LearnDash → Courses → Medical Dermatology to access the main DermDistrict lessons.

2. Study Each Topic

Each topic includes written content, clinical images, a video lesson, a podcast, key terms, and review materials.

3. Complete the Quiz

At the end of each topic, complete a 10-question quiz. There is no time limit, and you have 3 attempts to score at least 80%.

What You Will Find in Each Topic

Each dermatology topic is organized to help you understand the condition from multiple angles. For example, a topic such as Acne includes quick links to Images, Video, and Podcast sections so you can choose the learning format that works best for you.

The written lessons are divided into important clinical categories, including clinical appearance, common location, etiology, risk factors, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, and key takeaways. Each topic also includes a glossary of key terms to help you review important vocabulary.

Six-Week Schedule

DermDistrict is designed to be completed over six weeks. A suggested pacing schedule is provided below to help you stay on track. Plan to spend approximately 30–40 hours per week working through the course, labs, review materials, and quizzes.

Additional Resources

As a guide, you can also visit the About page to view all the skin conditions by category and skin type.

For support, visit the Help Center. There, you can access the discussion board, contact a dermatology expert, or view mental health and wellness resources. You can also use the AI chatbot at the bottom of each page for navigation help and general questions. At the bottom of this page, there is a short video that explains the whole process if you need additional guidance.

You can also access the Lab Manual and Drug Manual (both located in the “Courses tab”) for an additional guide on those topics.

Note:

If you access an outside link and it doesn’t work or is corrupted, please let a doctor know through the “Contact a dermatology expert” form. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out if there is anything that is confusing, whether that be the text itself, images, videos, or podcasts. If you see any topic/quiz that is blank, that means that new content is being added soon!
